Dark Harvest can be likened to Shutter Island meets No Country For Old Men with influences from George Romero’s The Crazies.
Scott Fletcher, a young deputy from Blacksburg County, returns to his hometown of Radford to find that something is amiss. Sheriff Doyle appears to be covering up a slew of missing person’s reports. The town hired a new deputy, Brian Lofton, to take over the case, but Scott is met with opposition from the conniving Sheriff. He begins his own investigation, separate from his duties with Blacksburg County. What he uncovers is a twisted web of lies, extortion and a dark secret that both the Sheriff and all involved wish to keep from prying eyes.
Scott finds out that many years previously a chemical company were experimenting with a new process that implemented corn with GMO’s to allow for stronger and more potent starch turnout and the ability to grow all season round, with resilience to common insects and pests. The corn was untested on humans and was strictly forbidden. But workers stole and consumed the corn, causing mutations, something Doyle and others were paid to keep their mouths shut about, after the government scrambled to cover up. Recent disappearances, however, seem to be linked to these past experiments. Will Scott get to the bottom of it all before it’s too late?
